BIO

I am a highly experienced teacher of English literature, English language, and reading skills. I graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature. Alongside my teaching, I am also studying for a Masters Degree in History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art.

Over the last few years, I have been working full time in a UK high school as a teacher of English Language and Literature and a reading mentor to students at KS3, GCSE & A-level students level.

In order to excel at this role, I underwent specific training which taught me how to deliver high quality teaching and support to students with additional needs.

I have a record of delivering great results to all of my students. All 60 of the students whom I tutored at this high school saw a dramatic increase of their reading ages by at least 14 months. As well as significantly improving reading scores, my students increased confidence, attendance, and engagement across the whole school curriculum.

I also have experience tutoring English online which includes planning and delivering lessons in accordance with the school curriculum, marking work and tracking progress. My style of tutoring is very much determined by the individual student. I consider the level they are currently at, the level they are aiming for, their areas for development, and their preferred learning style. I can teach any exam board and follow all school curriculums.

My tutoring approach often focuses on text analysis and essay practice. I aim to take my students step by step through the best techniques of how to understand, analyse, and write about texts and their authors. I also teach students how to connect what they understand from a text to the context of the author and the time they were writing in. This is a skill greatly admired by examiners and will help students to boost their grades.

I will often work through past exam questions with students and teach them what examiners are looking for. I am happy to set homework for students. The homework I set will often build upon the skills taught within the lesson and allow my students to practice by themselves. I will mark and provide feedback on any work completed in the next lesson in which the student will make improvements to their homework.

I can also help students with applications to colleges and universities. Specifically I can help students prepare for Oxford entrance exams and interviews. As a friendly and warm person, I aim to build a positive relationships with my students so that they are inspired to work hard and achieve their goals.

I want all students to have the opportunity to achieve their dreams and to feel confident to pursue their goals.
