BIO

I am a private tutor specialising in English Language and Sciences (Biology & Chemistry) at KS3 & GCSE levels. I enjoy interacting with my students and building up empathy. My teaching style is student centered.

I see myself as a facilitator as I believe that the student will learn more if we follow a guided learning approach in which I encourage them to ask questions. I am also an advocate for assessment for learning, which includes formative assessment and interactive activities during lessons.

Academically, I hold a PhD. from Magdalen College Oxford in Developmental and Molecular Biology. I also have a BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Edinburgh University. During a sabbatical in Singapore, I made a career change to pursue another passion, teaching.

I obtained my CELTA qualification at The British Council, Singapore 9 years ago, and have been teaching General, Academic, Business English and IELTS Skills as well as Speaking and Pronunciation courses since then. I am also a qualified IELTS Speaking examiner.

As well as teaching Adults I have also taught English Enrichment through the Primary, Secondary and Junior College levels. I also teach KS2, KS3 & GCSE English language. I prepare students for their GCSEs in English language. In addition to teaching, I enjoy learning.

I have spent the last 8 years mastering Mandarin Chinese. I feel that being a learner helps me to understand the difficulties that my students may encounter when learning a new language. I hope you will consider me in your search for KS2, KS3 & GCSE tutor.

I look forward to hearing from you soon, and to having the opportunity of helping your son or daughter fulfil their own potential.
