Most plant and animal cells have similar component parts

Plant and animal cells are known as eukaryotic cells, meaning they have a nucleus.

They have a jelly-like cytoplasm contained within a cell membrane.

Lots of chemical reactions happen in the cytoplasm because it contains enzymes.

The cell membrane controls the types and amounts of substances that can enter and leave the cell.

Plant and animal cells also have a nucleus.

The nucleus contains genetic material that controls the cell.

Respiration takes place in the mitochondria, to release energy.

Ribosomes manufacture the proteins the cell needs.
